[Music]

Today, we’re here with James Hahn.       Hey, James.

James:  What’s happening?

Mark: Now, for people that follow me you all heard James’ name before, but you’ve never seen him. This is the first time he’s been a guest on my show. I’ve been a guest on his podcast several times.

James is the sole reason for our runaway marketing success and I want to talk about that because I think my audience can actually benefit from learning how this is important in your business.

So, James at a high level, what is digital marketing?

James: Oh, man, you’re going to start there? Digital marketing. Well, digital marketing is marketing, I guess that’s where I would start with is because people are people and we have a huge — we have a huge problem I would say in not only in oil and gas, but in business in general where what we want to do is we want to split up, you know, P to P, B to B, business to business. But – or actually I’m sorry, business to business, you know, business to personal.

And a lot of people these days, they’ll talk about P to P, right? Person to person. And I think that’s the level that we have to get to whether it’s online of offline, we need to communicate with people in such a way that they’re able to feel an emotional connection with the brand.

So, what is digital marketing? I mean technically that’s a whole lot of different things, but when you get to the end of it, it’s really about creating the right brand that communicates the right message that connects with the right people.

Mark: All right. So, you specifically helped us with our business a few years ago and I’ve never…

James: Last summer.

Mark: Yeah, it was last summer, you’re right. It wasn’t a few years ago. The results have been so fantastic, it’s been like it’s been years ago.

So, James actually came in and helped us understand how to best use our assets to reach out and connect with our target market. Do you want to talk about that a little bit?

James: Yeah, absolutely. Where do you want to start?

Mark: So, let’s start with the fact that there’s a lot of companies out there that are doing this wrong and they could simply make some easy changes, some of the stuff that you helped us with to actually do things right.

James: Yeah. Well, here’s a quick pro tip and I guess, you know, we will touch on the SEO part real quick. But…

Mark: Let me stop you there. I actually don’t want go down the SEO route.

James: Okay.

Mark: Let’s talk a little bit about business, right? You directly affected my top line with just a few simple things you came in and did, right? Let’s talk about that a little bit.

James: Yeah. Well, the problem that I saw was that you weren’t communicating your message clearly. You had a lot of good content and you know all of these videos that you put out and everything, it’s just that – it’s just that it wasn’t kind of the full spectrum of the execution. There was just a lot of inefficiencies in the execution of what you’re doing.

Mark: Right. And for me, I didn’t know that we were doing anything wrong. James came in and able to show us what we did and let me talk some metrics here, right? Our website traffic literally went from about 700 unique visitors a day to over 4,000 unique visitors right now. And that’s directly the result of James’ work.

I do, we do no more cold calling. In fact, I had to hire my first oil and gas sales person because of James’ work. Our leads come into us by groves, in fact, we have the opposite problem that a lot of companies have. We have actually too many leads coming in that we’re drowning in leads.

So, James is…

James: And I still can’t make you to execute all of the right things.

Mark: No, it’s absolutely right. So, we’ve become friends and there are still things he wants me to do that I just don’t want to do, so I haven’t done it yet which probably would bring my business up to a whole different level. That will be a good future show if you ever talk me into actually doing some of these things.

James: Yeah, absolutely, absolutely. And so, yeah, you know, again, I used to work at Quicken Loans, we had a saying around Quicken Loans that a success is thousand and one little things. And that’s what I saw when, you know, it’s a lot of the time when I come to a brand, I will see that usually it’s about 90-95%, with you it’s like 98% and that 2% that made all the difference right.

And so – and so, the remarkable thing for me, by the way, this is I have to give a plug to Mark here is that – is that we consulted with you and you just did what we told you to do. [Laughs]

You know most of our clients, we’re actually going out executing the things and doing it you know. And just based off of what we told you, you were able to get those results because you went and executed and I think that’s, you know, that’s what it comes down to at the end of the day because ideas are they’re a dime a dozen. You know we can sit here right now, we can brainstorm we could come up with, you know, probably a thousand ways in an hour that you could grow your business in terms of what your marketing is doing wrong and everything like that, but if you don’t execute on any one of them, then we just wasted our time and the fact is that that we gave you – we gave you the consulting, we work together and then you went and did it and that’s really – that’s really the most important thing.

Mark:  Yeah. And that’s one of the things I love about James’ business models, he’s not trying to get in to get his hooks in your business, he comes in he gets it done he gets out the door and let you go on running your business.

So, James, if anybody wants to learn more about you and your company, where should they go?

James: TribeRocket.com. I always have to say tribe like a tribe of people because that would be the modern marketing term which you already had a good list going already. But, so the modern marketing term for, you know, for the community that you build around your business to drive traffic to your site so that you can sell them things on your e-mail list would be a tribe, so Tribe Rocket like one rocket going in the sky. So, TribeRocket.com is the place to go. We have an e-book that you could go to TribeRocket.com/ebook and it’s called the Top Five Marketing Mistakes Oil and Gas Operators Make and How to Avoid Them.

If you’re not in oil and gas, then just – the principles apply no matter what your vertical or who you are you know. And that’s the fun thing about this, you know, I just – I just got my brother – my brother, Robert breeds German Shepherds out in the Pacific northwest and he’s been struggling out there forever and I’m able to just take the exact same principles and apply it to that – to that vertical of dogs or, you know, because the point is and I guess I would finish on this is that all of the stuff that I taught Mark, all of the stuff that I know and that I use in my business, all of these stuff is available, it’s all available for free which is amazing.

All you have to do is go and find it and all the answers are out there for anyone to grow and, you know, to substantially grow their business in a very short time, but you have to do the work. Thankfully I’ve been doing it for about seven years so I can give people some shortcuts.

Mark: Yeah. And that’s awesome. We’ll stick some links in the show notes so you don’t have to take notes.

James, thank you so much for your time.

James: Thank you for having me.

Mark: All right. Folks, I hope this helped. We will see you next time.
