Okay. Today, we were doing a little bit of traveling and on today’s show what we’re going to do is talk about the four habits you need to develop to ensure a successful 2014. So let’s get started, shall we?

All right. Habit one is always get your workout in first. I don’t care if you weight train, do martial arts, yoga, jog, or even walk around the block. First thing in the morning, get up and get out of bed, do a little bit of exercise. It clears your mind and allows you to think critically the rest of the day and it gives you a lot of energy. This way you can tackle your big business issues first. So habit number one, get the workout in.

All right. Number two is make sure you plan your learning time. This industry is global, it’s complex, it’s very complicated and if you don’t stay on top of your learning, you’re going to fall behind. So here at Modal Point we schedule four hours a month strictly to schedule and coordinate our learning. You can see it right here in our calendar.

And there’s a bunch of different things you can do; there are events, there is webinar, there’s a ton of mags out there. We have some company mags like BHP Billiton, FMC’s Well Linked, Baker Hughes has one. And then you have sort of the – the knowledge based mags things like Digital Energy Oil Field, Midstream, and the Offshore Projects. And then you have the insider mags things like GeoExpro, Oilfield Technology, OE which is a great magazine, E&P and World Pipeline.

All these mags give you insight that you won’t get anywhere else in a very specialized content, so it’s well worth your time getting subscription and staying on top of this.

All right. Number three is you really need to use a productivity system. There are several of them out there and if you watch the show for any time, you know I’m a big fan of the Secret Weapon which is based on a book by David Allen’s, Getting Things Done. But you need somewhere to efficiently categorize everything you need to do, store all the information, and get those damn e-mails out of your inbox. I get the same 70 to 120 e-mails a day that most people get and majority of the time I have no e-mails in my inbox. There’s a system to prioritize that and the process so nothing slips through the tracks.

So, if you’re not using a productivity system, you’re wasting a lot of time that could be better you spent working on your business. Some of the productivity systems that are out there besides the Secret Weapon are things like Productivity Points, Zen To Done, and Pomodoro Technique. Take – look at all four of those and if you see ones that you like just take it and adapt for your own. The first 28 days will be the hardest to get use to using it, but after that, things just rock and roll.

And finally, number four. Take time to compare your results with your goals each quarter. You should see if what you planned out the previous year for this year, if you’re hitting the mark and where you’re missing. And don’t tell me you don’t have a plan for this year, that’s a big no-no, that’s a sure way to not capitalize and be the most successful you can. Go back and look at our two episodes about getting prepared for 2014 part 1 and 2 and I hope you put together plan.

So hopefully these four habits will be something easy that you can pick up, it absolutely leads to my success and I know it will lead to your success too. So, I hope this helps. See you next time.
