Spent the day at the Valve World Americas Expo & Conference in the glorious (well almost) George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston, Texas, US. The weather outside was miserable with both the heat and the humidity in the 90’s. But the conference and exhibition was a pleasantly cool welcomed retreat.

The engineering prowess of the manufacturing side was very impressive. Imagine a 60” ball valve with a precession fit of just microns. And robotic welds that were al but invisible. Truly amazing.

The workshops on fugitive emissions, fitness for service, updates in cryo technology, unconventional energy, and new materials were informative without being boring. Timetables were spot on with no overcrowding, although most of the workshops were pretty full.

Naturally it was an international event, but this is the first year I have seen so many people from the Pacific rim. Both as attendees and showcasing their wares. A big South America’s attendance as well, so my limited Portuguese actually came in handy directing a group to the closest restroom.
