Many people know that Houston, Texas is an oil town. But what many do not realize is that Houston is the global epicenter of the oil & gas vertical. With over 6000 oil & gas (notice I did not say “energy”) companies doing business in Houston, it’s easy to see why we crushed the last recession and dominate the economic recover of the country.

Every single super-major, major independent, upstream, midstream, downstream and service company either has its headquarters here or at least an office or two. Even the NOC’s like CNOC & Petrabras have offices in Houston, and play a major role in the over 400,000 oil & gas jobs located in Texas alone.

Most of the oil & gas industries new process and cutting edge technologies come out of Houston as well as the top engineering minds. And the city’s pro business culture means that this industry’s presence will continue to grow.

I love walking downtown or driving the energy corridor and seeing all my colleagues: Schlumberger, Chevron, Shell, BP, Marathon, Baker Hughes, Anadarko, Apache, Kinder Morgan, ExxonMobil, Halliburton and FMC. The list goes on and on.

Houston – I just love it.
