As the industry continues to explore into deeper waters and harsher environments, a greater emphasis has been made in the ability of companies to cooperate with one another.

No longer do companies operate in silos, worried about their operations only. A mistake my one contractor can have a cascading effect onto the other contractors working on a drilling rig or production platform. Enter the first area in which cooperation is seen. Project teams and Operation teams now engage with one another via various communication means to ensure that the right hand knows what the left hand is doing. Leveraging weekly conference calls, video meetings and face to face meetings, these teams are now sharing a greater amount of knowledge than ever before.

By sharing knowledge, these teams are enabling their companies to deliver quality solutions that can quickly react to the demands of the environment in which they work in. Cross functional collaboration can lead to faster identification of issues, execution of improvement projects that include studies, FEEDs, procurement, installation, completion and handover. This collaboration has a direct impact on the company’s bottom line, as cost savings are reaped from elimination of duplicate work, cost savings idea and careful planning of execution. Once the results are seen, it has hard for cross functional teams to revert back to old ways.
