Come learn about Well Integrity and Lifecycle Digitalization, a fascinating combination of cutting edge science and the economics of well development. The conference mentioned takes place in Houston, TX US on April 14-15 2015 and is a great event to learn and network with oil and gas business leaders. To learn more about the event click here or reach out to Jamie direct at +44(0)207 422 4345 or at jdavies@fc-bi.com.

And we have a new book coming out on how to sell to the oil and gas market. Click here to learn more about the book and sign up to be notified of its release. Plus be invited to some “invitation only” live events where we help you with your selling efforts.

Mark: Hey, folks. Let’s learn something new about the oil and gas industry.

[Music]

All right. Today we’re doing something different. We’ve actually never done this before. We’re having a Skype interview because I have Jamie Davies on with Decomworld. He’s on the other side of the pond, in the UK right now.

Good morning, Jamie.

Jamie: Good morning, Mark. How are you doing?

Mark: I’m doing very good.

So, I’ve known Decomworld for a while now and you all put on some of the best conferences in the industry, very much users and management of the oil and gas industry find your conferences very valuable.

And you’ll have a conference coming up in April, I want to talk a little bit about it. So tell me what exactly is well integrity and life cycle digitalization conference?

Jamie: So basically, we’re trying to address one of the key issues for well integrity professionals in the oil and gas industry. I mean aside from some of the most obvious challenges which integrity professionals are facing, what we’ve noticed just from our research and speaking to people throughout the world is that there’s a huge disconnect throughout the life cycle of the well.

So whether it’s actually addressing, you know, the conversations happening between integrity professionals, more often than not actually sets in the operational teams and the actual production side of the business. There doesn’t seem to be a great amount of connect between the drilling guys or the [abandonment] guys at the end of the life cycle.

What we’re bringing to address at the moment is to have one smooth transition for the well, managing integrity from concept and design through to the abandonments of the well at the very end of its life cycle.

Mark: Okay. Let me stop right here. So someone in the audience may not understand that well life cycle, do you want to talk about that for a little bit?

Jamie: Well, it’s more about taking the idea of managing the health of the well at every stage of its life cycle, you know, whether or not at the very beginning when you’re designing and constructing the well itself. How many people actually put into consideration how we can proactively manage the health and integrity of the life cycle fifteen years down the road?

Now, the concept of life cycle management is something which seems to have been swept into under the carpet because it’s very much the idea of saving money I suppose to actually make money. It’s more about enhancing production fifteen years down the line which is not something which the engineers at the very beginning of the life cycle are particularly comfortable with looking into during that stage of the well.

Mark: I understand. That’s really great. So, like I said your conferences are some of the best I’ve ever attended because they have real people there. Real people from oil and gas industry real operators, real executives.

So talk about your show coming up in April. Where is it and who do you think is going to attend this as far as oil and gas companies?

Jamie: Well, one thing I think that we – we try to do is have sort of representatives from the entire community. I mean as great as it is when you go to certain shows and it’s just purely the operators or just purely the vendors on the actual stage. So, we try to encourage conversation from every aspect so you can understand the challenge from every audience who are going to get involved with the actual well hole itself.

The conference is going to be taking place in Houston. We’re going to be bringing together firstly some of the most interesting proactive operators in the industry. It’s more about learning how the work which the operators are doing can transfer into extending the life of the well and extending the operational efficiency of the well throughout the life cycle which I think is one of the most important aspects of the industry.

For too long now, too many people have ignored the actual health of the well hole at the beginning and at the end stages of its life. Too many times as we – we drill the well past across to the intech professionals and ask them to just deal with the problem when they actually arise. It’s far too reactive.

So the part of we’re trying to do now is build a conversation for that aspect of the industry on how we can proactively manage the health of the well from day one through to year twenty five when we ultimately decommission it.

Mark: Yeah. Yeah. That’s great. I happen to know for a fact that you’re spot on that engineers at the very beginning of the life cycle, well, do not really consider what’s going to happen ten or fifteen or two and a half years. So this is really cutting edge stuff.

So the conference is in April. It’s in Houston. If people wanted to learn more about the conference, where would they go?

Jamie: To our website which gives all the information about the various speakers and the actual case studies themselves that will be taking place. There’ll be a note to the bottom with a direct link to the actual website. And then my contact details will be also down there too to answer any additional questions regarding the conference itself.

Mark: Yeah, that’s great, Jamie. So my audience, you need to go this conference, click on the link, learn what it’s about, sign up for it because it’s well worth your time.

Jamie, thank you so much for your time today.

Jamie: No problem. Thanks for having me.

Mark: Yeah. Folks, I hope this helped. We will see you next time.
