Mark: Hey, folks. Let’s learn something new about the oil and gas industry.

All right. We’re sitting here with Bruce. Hey, Bruce.

Bruce: Hi. How are you?

Mark: Very good. And, we’re sitting here with Greg Foley. How are you doing, Greg?

Greg: I’m doing great.

Mark: And we’re actually going to talk about something that we usually don’t talk about when it’s just three of us though. We have an event coming up don’t we?

Greg: We do.  We’ve got the Ninth Annual Australian American Chamber of Commerce Energy and Technology Conference, 4th of May.

Mark: So 4th of May. So, Bruce, if I was a company out there, we have a lot of companies paying attention right now, what would be the benefit of me coming to your Energy and Technology Conference and maybe getting a booth space?

Bruce: Well, you’ll be receiving exposure to companies like BHP Billiton, Chevron, Halliburton, and many others. Companies large and small. And you’ll be able to talk about your technology that they may need. You’ll be able to see the things that they’re doing with their business which you might apply to yours to your benefit. And it’s just a tremendous networking opportunity.

Mark: Yeah. And so, you know, if you follow the blog for any length of time you know that we talked about this intersection of oil and gas and technology. And if you’re in that world on either side of it, if you’re a user of technology if you’re looking for new ways to drive efficiencies in your business or if you’re a tech company and you want to be exposed to global oil and gas industry, the Energy and Technology Conference is the place to be, and it’s literally right around the corner.

Energy and Technology ConferenceNow, Bruce you talked about networking a little bit, how important is networking in oil and gas?

Bruce: Oil and gas companies are almost inherently secretive. And so, it’s only through networking that you can often find out what other people are doing what other people are thinking about doing.

And so, networking is a way to pierce the veil, if you will and make contact with people who can eventually develop a trust in you and share with you what they’re thinking what they’re doing and listen to you share what you’re thinking and doing.

Mark: Yeah. And so, it’s still an industry of people doing business with people and if you don’t do business with the people part of it, you’d be left behind.

Bruce: That’s right. That’s exactly right. Trying to do business with these companies large and small via making – reaching out through technology with an e-mail is almost like banging your head against the concrete wall. That’s why my head is so flat. It took me a long time to learn this.

Mark: Yeah. You’re spot on. So, Greg, you don’t sound like you’re from South Texas?

Greg: No, very much farther South than that, Sydney, Australia.

Mark: Yeah. And so, this is the Australian Chamber of Commerce putting this event. Now, this is not the first time you have done it?

The Ninth Energy and Technology Conference

Greg: No. This is the ninth time we’ve done the Energy and Technology Conference. We’ve had – every year the bar goes up, we have to do a better job. This year we’ve got some outstanding speakers both from Australia and from the US. So, we’ve got a broad appeal. We like to think we appeal to Australian companies that are looking to invest an assets here and US companies investing in projects in the – in the Australian area.

Mark: Yeah. There’s a couple of big ones going out there. This one called Gorgon I think is kind of big, huh?

Greg: Chevron – Chevron has done that. We’ve had people from Chevron over the years talk about that project. One of the most interesting things about the Gorgon Island project is that they don’t have anyone living on the island and all the environmental safety aspects that they did as they were doing the project they’re actually attracting wildlife back onto that island that haven’t been there for a long time.

And incidentally there’s another island about two miles away where none of that has happened and no one’s done anything with it. So, the net positive of the work that Chevron did on Gorgon is just unbelievable.

Mark: Yeah. It’s a great story, it’s a great project.

All right. So, all three podcasts; Oil and Gas HSE, Oil and Gas Industry Leaders, and then Oil and Gas This Week are going to be at the Energy and Technology Conference. You need to go.

If you’re a vendor out there looking to generate some business and you see the price of crude creeping up, right? It’s time for you to spend that marketing dollars and here’s a good place to spend your marketing dollars.

If you want to learn which I tell everybody in this industry, you need to spend time learn. Come and just enjoy the event.

Greg, if they want to find out more about this, where should they go?

Greg: We have a website, people can register there. They can express their interest in taking a booth. And the website is www.aacc-houston.org.

Mark: Yeah. And, we’ll stick a link in the show notes so you don’t have to be writing stuff down.

All right. So, ou need to go, we’ll be there, Bruce and Greg will be there, and a whole bunch of oil and gas peers will be there.

Hey, Greg, thank you so much for your time.

Greg: You’re welcome.

Bruce: Thank you.

Mark: And, Bruce, man, this is great. Thank you.

Bruce: Mark, thank you so much. I appreciate it very much. Bye-bye.

Mark: So, folks I hope this helped. We will see you next time.
