So in the long run, this is a very good thing. University of Houston President Renu Khator has just named Dow Chair Professor Ramanan Krishnamoorti as a special assistant to the president for UH Energy, a collection of the university’s top energy research and education programs.

Krishnamoorti will lead UH’s efforts to develop a strategic plan for UH Energy involving education and training, research and the expansion of UH’s Energy Research Park.

Our oil & gas industry is facing a major talent shortage that will start kicking in around 2016, due to the graying of the workforce (think baby boomers retiring) and growth in the US demand for skilled workers.

I’m doing my part in mentoring Nathan Spence, one of UH’s top performers in the Bauer program for excellence in selling. This is our future, and I’m very proud to play a part in the next generation’s success.

What are you doing to “give something back”?
