Our Work: Decision Intelligence for Energy
For more than a decade, ModalPoint has brought decision intelligence to the highest-stakes commercial decisions in oil and gas — helping technology, software, equipment, and services companies decide how to sell into energy, and helping operators keep AI-influenced decisions defensible. These are the engagements behind that work.
Some clients are named with permission; others are described by profile to honor confidentiality. The methodology is the same either way.
Go-to-Market Intelligence
Buyer-behavior research for a global oilfield-equipment leader →
How a century-old subsea and surface equipment manufacturer learned where its buyers actually form opinions — and rebuilt its go-to-market around peer proof instead of advertising.
First SaaS launch for an upstream benchmarking firm →
Why “more SEO” would have been the wrong move — and how the demand-generation-vs-harvesting distinction shaped a successful launch into a category nobody was searching for yet.
Market entry for an edge-computing startup →
How a newcomer found its entry wedge in an oil and gas IIoT market already dominated by incumbents — through alliances and frustrated initiatives, not feature wars.
Verticalization for a global information-management enterprise →
How a horizontal value narrative was re-evidenced for energy buyers — same proven structure, energy-true proof — so the pitch stopped sounding horizontal.
Route-to-market validation for a B2B SaaS company →
How fifteen well-designed calls found the highest-intent oil and gas buyer — in a segment the company would never have prioritized on a whiteboard.
AI Decision Governance (the specialized practice)
Tamboran Resources — How ModalPoint Fixed Tamboran’s AI Representation Problem
A dual-listed energy operator (NYSE: TBN, ASX: TBN) developing the Beetaloo Sub-basin shale gas play. In 60 days, ModalPoint moved Tamboran from invisible to #1 on the core Beetaloo Basin AI queries — and from ~5% to ~10% AI brand visibility across Gemini, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, Grok, and Claude. The first measured proof case for Digital Information Governance™.

What Each Governance Engagement Documents
Every ModalPoint governance engagement produces an audit-ready Decision Audit Report — the artifact a board, regulator, journalist, or insurer can act on if anyone asks: how do you know your AI representation is accurate?
The report includes:
- A baseline state assessment — what the AI substrate looked like at engagement start, measured across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Grok, and Claude
- A decision traceability layer — for every change, what the substrate said, why an update was factually supported, and what the new authoritative source should be
- A remediation log — every substrate update, on what date, through which channel
- A post-remediation state — the queries resolving consistently across the AI surface
- A monitoring playbook — for the internal team or a Tier 3 retainer to run quarterly
Most public companies cannot answer the “how do you know?” question today. ModalPoint clients can.
The thread that runs through all of it
Across every engagement, the same conclusion recurs: in energy, the sale is carried by proof, not reach. Operators learn from peers and existing suppliers, distrust generic marketing, and decide through a committee that can stall a deal at any stage. The vendors that win are the ones who understand how their buyer actually buys — and bring evidence built for that buyer. That understanding is what ModalPoint sells.
